Managing rainwater in densely populated urban areas is a technical challenge that requires reliability and precision. In Venice, the need to secure the underground parking of three residential complexes from flooding risks led to the design of a centralized lifting system.
The goal was to channel stormwater discharges into a single infrastructure capable of handling high flow rates, ensuring maximum protection even during the most intense weather events.
Aquageo managed the entire project cycle, from the initial survey to the "turnkey" implementation, providing a robust and technologically advanced solution.
The challenge: optimize disposal and prevent flooding
The client needed a system that would overcome the fragmentation of discharges from individual buildings by centralizing collection into a single tank. The main challenges were:
-
hydraulic safety: the need to prevent flooding in an area subject to heavy rains;
-
operational efficiency: managing massive water flow rates in a short time;
-
maintenance: the need for a system that is easily inspectable without interrupting service.
The Aquageo solution: Zenit pumps and custom manifold
To ensure service continuity and the necessary power, Aquageo installed a lifting system based on high-quality components and a customized hydraulic design.
Components and technical configuration
-
Zenit submersible pumps: three units of 9 kW each were used, each capable of a flow rate of 100 l/s, for an extremely high total discharge capacity.
-
Coupling foot: the pumps are installed on tank bottom bases that allow for quick coupling and decoupling. This solution stabilizes the hydraulic connection and drastically speeds up maintenance operations.
-
HDPE hydraulic circuit: the 150 mm delivery lines use high-density polyethylene (HDPE) electro-welded pipes, which converge into a custom-designed manifold. The unified flow is then directed towards a single 400 mm discharge pipe leading to the receiving channel.
-
Sectioning valves: the installation of non-return valves and gate valves between each pump and the manifold allows for isolating a single unit for technical interventions while keeping the others regularly operational.

Automation and intelligent control
The efficiency of the system is ensured by a control panel that automates the entire process. The management logic uses four floats for constant monitoring of tank levels:
-
progressive start and stop of the pumps based on set thresholds;
-
prevention of electrical and hydraulic overloads;
-
optimization of the energy and mechanical performance of the machines.
Benefits for the client
The intervention managed entirely by the Aquageo team allowed for concrete and lasting results.
-
Effective centralization: coordinated disposal of stormwater for all three residential complexes.
-
Maximum hydraulic safety: protection of the urban area even during critical weather events thanks to a total flow rate of 300 l/s.
-
Simplified maintenance: reduced costs and downtime thanks to the coupling foot system and sectioning valves.
-
"Turnkey" solution: Aquageo handled every phase, from the survey to design, installation, and final testing.
